Our story

From one shared spreadsheet to the North Sea

Eight years of Tideline, one milestone at a time. Drag, scroll or use the arrows.

2017

A spreadsheet that refused to die

Three freight planners in Rotterdam share one Excel file for routing. We build a tiny web app so they can stop emailing it around.

Seed round and a real office

Harbour Ventures leads a 2.4 million seed. We move into a former bicycle shop near the Maas and hire our first designer.

About Timeline Scroll

How we work

Six habits we hire for, and keep each other to

Values only matter when they change a decision. These are the ones that show up in our pull requests, our hiring loops and our calendars.

Read the team handbook
01

Ship in small slices

Nothing waits for a big reveal. We release behind flags and learn from real use within days.

214 releases last year
02

Default to open

Roadmap, salaries and incident notes are readable by everyone on the team from day one.

Every doc public inside
03

Measure twice

We write down what success looks like before building, then check it honestly afterwards.

Every launch has a review
04

Own the outcome

Whoever ships it follows it to the customer. No handoffs into a void, no shrugging at support.

05

Write it down

Decisions live in short written memos, so people in nine time zones can disagree well.

06

Leave it better

Every change cleans one small thing nearby. Over years, that compounding is the whole strategy.

  1. 2019

A spreadsheet that got out of hand

Two operations leads at a Lisbon logistics firm build a shared tracker to stop losing shipments between email threads.

  2. 2020

    First 100 customers

Word spreads between freight forwarders. We quit our jobs, raise a small angel round and ship the first real version.

  3. 2022

Series A and a second home

We open an office in Toronto to be closer to North American carriers and grow the team to 30 people.

  4. 2024

    One million shipments a month

Carriers in 41 countries now run their daily dispatch on Harbor, from two-truck family firms to national fleets.

64 people, profitable, and still answering support tickets ourselves every Friday afternoon.

A note from the founder
We are not trying to be the biggest company in logistics. We want to be the one dispatchers trust at 6am, when a truck is late and the phone will not stop ringing.

How we work

Six things we will not compromise on

These are the principles we hire for, review against and argue about. They have not changed since the first ten of us wrote them down.

AFKMLVRPSRJPOG+35

42 people across 11 countries, working async from Lisbon, Toronto and their kitchen tables.

  1. 01

    Customers set the roadmap

Every engineer spends two hours a month on support calls. What we hear there decides what we build next quarter.

  2. 02

    Write it down

Decisions live in short public docs, not in meetings. Anyone can see why we chose something and challenge it later.

  3. 03

    Small teams, full ownership

Teams of four ship, measure and maintain what they build. Nobody throws work over a wall to someone else.

  4. 04

    Default to calm

No late-night pings, no fake urgency. We plan for sustainable weeks so the work stays good for years, not sprints.

  5. 05

    Be generous with credit

We name the people behind every launch, in the changelog and in public. Good work deserves to be seen.

  6. 06

    Leave it better

Each pull request makes the codebase a little easier for the next person. Each process gets simpler, not heavier.
